Timna Park - The oldest copper mines in the word.

25 Kilometers north of Eilat is the central visitors' site of the Southern Arava Desert - Timna Park. The park extends over 60 square kilometers of valley, surrounded by a belt of cliffs, the highest of which reaches an altitude of 854 meters. The cliffs are semicircles of sedimentary rocks, of land and sea origin. The Timna Mountains rise in the center of the park as a dark cleft block of plutonium rock - formed due to fusion which occurred deep down below the earth's surface.

In the center of the valley itself we find a large variety of stones and colors of different periods, primeval landscapes of varying minerals, which bring us to the real story of the valley - the Copper Mines!

In Timna we follow the continuous developing process of copper mining technology, from the Chalcolithic Period until our time.  The valley has rich centers of mining and extraction, culture and worship which document history in great detail.
Rich geology and archeology of all times invite you to a pleasant and enjoyable visit in the enchanting world of the desert.
